Program Description

Attendees will learn about their responsibilities related to addressing commonly experienced ethical and legal issues in supervision such as navigating dual relationships and maintaining professional boundaries, competency concerns, mandated reporting, risk management, ensuring informed consent, managing confidentiality and protecting client information, due process in evaluation, and issues related to liability and power imbalances. Regulatory issues governing the practice of counseling and counseling supervision in Ohio, the roles of consultation, credentialing and reimbursement, contracting, documentation, and professional standards and organizational procedures related to ensuring quality counseling and supervision practice will be discussed.

This workshop is 6 Supervision CEUs for Ohio Counselors.

Learning Objectives

  • Learn common ethical and legal issues in supervision and identify considerations in addressing them.
  • Learn the basics of an ethical decision-making model to address ethical and legal issues, and practice the steps.
  • Understand relational difficulties that can arise in the supervisory relationship, and identify strategies to address these difficulties to promote an effective supervisory alliance.
  • Understand the route of reporting issues related to unethical, illegal, and unprofessional behavior.
  • Explore and understand the importance of risk management strategies, professional liability, consultation, credentialing and reimbursement, contracting, and documentation standards.
  • Explore and understand the importance of setting a consistent level of excellence and expectation, interactive group activity, group discussion, & evaluation.
