Program Description
This presentation introduces Trauma-Informed Motivational Interviewing (TI-MI), an integrated approach that combines the collaborative, person-centered principles of Motivational Interviewing with a trauma-informed lens. Participants will explore how trauma impacts behavior, decision-making, and engagement in change, and how practitioners can respond in ways that promote safety, trust, empowerment, and autonomy.
Through practical examples, brief demonstrations, and reflective discussion, attendees will learn how to apply core MI skills—such as open-ended questions, reflective listening, and evoking change talk—while avoiding re-traumatization and strengthening client resilience. This session is designed for professionals who support individuals navigating change in healthcare, behavioral health, social services, education, or related fields.
